Before we gear up for the holiday season we’d like to take the time to spotlight Jake Vickers, an Advomas Eligibility Specialist.
At Advomas, giving back to our community is at our core and Jake goes above and beyond. He spent over 20 years in emergency medicine and is a veteran of the US Armed Forces serving in Operation Desert Storm as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy. Jake was also a Combat Medic in the US Army Reserves, and served in the Michigan National Guard. He obtained three honorable discharges and gained valuable experience in the Army Reserves while serving in a M.A.S.H. unit (Mobil Army Surgical Hospital) now known as Combat Support Hospitals where he learned the flexibility of fully functional Mobil hospitals.
In January of 2010, Haiti was devastated by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that affected an estimated 3,500,000 people. Over 188,383 houses were badly damaged and 105,000 were destroyed by the earthquake (293,383 in total), 1.5m people became homeless. Upon learning about the earthquake Jake partook in a relief mission to bring assistance to the orphans left after this tragic event by the name of “Children of Salvation Project Haiti”.
Jake is currently in Haiti bringing aid and relief to those who need it most. He has also set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds for resources for the Children of Salvation Project Haiti.
We are proud and honored to call Jake part of the Advomas family.
